Freedom Is Not Outside, But Within Ourselves
Freedom is something that we are always looking for as the ideal of happiness, although there are still several situations in which we prefer to tie ourselves. For example, in relationships where emotional dependence is increasingly present.
However, there are many other types of freedoms that, even if we want to, we cannot achieve. Like it or not, we live in a society where there are a series of rules that restrict and limit us. Or is this what we want to believe? We are going to develop these reflections below.
Freedom is within us
However, despite all this, there is something that we have not yet realized: l to freedom actually is within ourselves. And this changes everything.
Think of the number of times you have felt very good, as in balance with everything and everyone. Suddenly, you notice a certain lightness inside you, a freedom that allows you to be more spontaneous, more creative, more “yourself”.
However, the opposite happens when everything goes wrong. When there is a pain that is making you bitter or a series of problems for which you see a difficult solution. So, you feel heavy, with an emotional charge that limits you.
These two examples clearly show what we are calling “inner freedom”. Because sometimes we get burdened with worries, we become victimized, or we tie ourselves to a partner. Instead, we should take life much more calmly.
The lightness of being free
Let’s experience the lightness of letting go of relationships and people that don’t make us feel good. Or the wonderful feeling of not even depending on a job.
Let us give ourselves the incredible opportunity to take responsibility for our actions. We must face problems with strength, and not with negativity or embracing the role of victims.
We have the opportunity to be free. However, every day of our life we choose not to be, allowing external factors to condition our inner freedom.
Freedom, overcome ego and fears
The ego always speaks first, trying to separate you from others. It takes you to the role of the victim and always establishes differences according to appearances.
We all have egos, there is no doubt about that. But not knowing how to distinguish it and allow it to exercise absolute control will cause us, in addition to unhappiness, lack of freedom.
However, in addition to the ego, we find another of the great barriers that every day remind us that we cannot go through there. They tell us that we are not enough or that we will fail because we are not worth it: These are our fears.
Our freedom ends at that moment. When, instead of facing a fear and trying to get past it, we ignore it. Or when we escape from it as if we could flee.
We do not realize that our inner freedom is not what happens to us. Nor is it what the ego tells us or that fear that drives us back so much.
Our freedom is in the way in which we respond to everything that emerges in our daily lives. In letting out who we really are without intimidating us, without forming strange stories in our heads, simply being.
Let’s listen to our inner voice
In a world full of noise, we have stopped listening to our inner voice. We pay our full attention to all those voices that come from abroad. However, strictly following what others tell us to do, letting ourselves be carried away by external approval, will go against our freedom.
It is essential to find ourselves again. Learn to listen to ourselves and stop paying so much attention to what others say or do.
The inner voice does not know about families, what to do, society, culture, religions, authority … The inner voice only knows what is best for us.
The inner voice is intuition
Some people call it intuition, others instinct … The positive is that, whatever we call it, we know that there is something there, within ourselves. This urges us to follow a path that is sometimes not approved or welcomed by the outside world.
It is in our hands to choose the freedom that will give us heed or continue limited. What ties us to being pigeonholed by all appearances, seeking external approval, and fears. Those who will try to prevent us from following what is actually dictating our heart.
